Policolor History

We build the history of Policolor from 1965, the date on which we laid the foundations of the Varnishes and Paints Enterprise.

With passion for color, with dedication for the development of research and the implementation of new technologies, investing trust in people and with respect for customers, we continuously develop the company’s business.


Bucharest Varnishes and Paints Enterprise is established, supplier for both national industries and consumer goods market in Romania.


The company expands its production capacity by putting into operation the manufacturing section for synthetic resins, paints for export, one factory for nitrocellulose paints and varnishes.

1976 - 1990

Bucharest Varnishes and Paints Enterprise becomes the first and only manufacturer of OEM (Original Equipment Manufactory) car enamels.


Bucharest Varnishes and Paints Enterprise is transformed into a joint stock company under the name of S.C. Policolor S.A.


The shares of Policolor are listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

The privatization process of Policolor is completed by the acquisition of the majority stake (51%) by the Romanian Investment Fund together with RAEF (Romanian American Enterprise Fund).

Policolor is certified according to the SR EN ISO 9001/1995 9001/1995 standard.


Policolor acquires the majority stake in Orgachim JSC, the largest paints and varnishes manufacturer in Bulgaria.


Policolor implements the Environmental Management System, in accordance with the domestic and international norms specific to the paints field.

SPOR brand is launched and this way Policolor marks the entry on the Romanian market of quality decorative paints.


Policolor diversifies its product range, launching brands such as IRIS, G.A.T.A., Villa System (Villa Supra, VillaPrima, Villa Grund), Ecolor.


Policolor obtains SRAC and IQNET certification for the Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System.

The first image campaign of Policolor brand is underway, a premiere for the entire varnish and paint industry in Romania.


Policolor launches KLAR Professional range of product for professional car painters.


Policolor launches the national network of Policolor-Casa Culorilor stores that offer both classic products and a color palette of over 1000 shades of washable paints made on tinting machines.


Policolor establishes the KLAR'ART club, sponsored by KLAR Professional, a club that brings together all airbrush specialists in the country.

The launch of KLAR Professional Training Center takes place; in response to the need to improve the professional training of car painters.

DEKO Professional range of products is launched, destined for the professional segment of the construction market.


Policolor launches the MAESTRO range of economic products.

Policolor receives the "Laureate of the Economic Tribune" trophy for economic performance, creativity, quality and competitiveness in business.

Policolor participates through the DEKO Professional division in all CAMEX fairs and exhibitions at national level, on which occasion it also receives the diploma for "The most beautiful stand".


"Professionals of Tomorrow" program is launched nationwide, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.


It starts the program of specialized trainings for applicators and craftsmen.


Policolor launches innovative products with silver ions: SPOR with silver ions and SPOR Kids.

DEKO Professional, in partnership with CEC BANK and BCR, supports the thermal rehabilitation program through GEO 69/2010.


Policolor joins Responsible Care, a voluntary, global initiative that promotes the development of products and technologies that contribute to reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and conserving the planet's resources.


Casabella brand is launched.

Vinarom brand is relaunched, which, due to its proven efficiency in use and its spread in the market, gets to being confused with the product itself, the term Vinarom reaching DEX.

Policolor increases its stake in Orgachim to 91.10%.


On the 50th anniversary of its founding, Policolor starts the “The Colors of Romania” - project of social responsibility.


Policolor occupies position 76, increasing by 21 positions compared to the previous year, in the top 100 strongest Romanian brands.


Policolor launches DEKO Creative Effect products, specially designed to give a particularly attractive look to interior walls by using creative application techniques.


Policolor opens the new factory in Bucharest, located at 98 Timisoara Blvd.
